Before joining Columbia’s graduate program in historical musicology, Tom studied at King’s College London, where he received BMus and MMus degrees; for the latter he was awarded the Hilda Margaret Watts Prize for highest overall mark. Between 2012-2014, he served as editor of the journal Current Musicology. Since 2013, he has taught “Music Humanities: Masterpieces of Western Music,” the musical component of the university’s Core Curriculum. In the fall of 2016, he was appointed as a consultant at the university’s Writing Center. Tom is currently writing up his dissertation on music, sound, and the senses in postwar Paris.
